What is love?

This query is as integral to the world of art and creation as the work itself being created. Love is the mark of the beginning. Love is the embers of the aftermath. Love is the most precious entity to be shared with another. Love is most sacred when discovered within ourselves. Love is a lens that blurs unacceptable truths into soft focus. Love is a revelation that gives meaning to life.

Love is something we inherently seek; yet in this time of chaos and instability, its pursuit can seem increasingly futile. In love, we experience both extreme fascination and desperate sorrow. Love is complicated and its interpretations, varied.

Black Eyed Peace is singing our first song for tonight asking us this very question; Where’s the love? It’s WHERE’S THE LOVE by BLACK EYED PEACE everyone.

3. Song1: WHERE IS THE LOVE by BLACK EYED PEACE

4. Bridge 멘트

That was WHERE IS THE LOVE by BLACK EYED PEACE. This is the question we keep asking ourselves throughout our lives.

Love and Harmony is the concept of the 8th annual Busan International Performing Arts Festival. BIPAF is now one of the most prominent spring festivals in Busan, leading its role as social communication between performance and audience with a distinguished collection of performing arts from in and outside of Korea As the name of the festival suggests, it also provides interactive exchange for all participants regardless of their nationality.

It introduces a variety of cultures to Busan not to mention practical and cultural interaction while promoting understanding.

The use of local festivals as an instrument for tourism development has gained worldwide momentum in recent years. Glastonbury and Edinburgh Festival, Cannes Film Festival, Avignon Festival are the familiar cases.

These time-honored or existing local cultural events have been revived and repackaged as tourism events lately. New festivals are being created every day.

Tonight, On our show, we have very special guests with us to talk about Busan International Performing Arts Festival in more details. And we will be also discussing the implications these kind of local festivals will have on Busan’s future and the steps we need to take to develop more as a global city, with our four experts.

If you would like to tell us what you think, send us a text message at #9050  or call us at 051 663 0061 0r 0062

But for now, we have our lovely reporter Hyojung in the studio..

5. Reportage
석준: Hello Hyojung.
Hyojung: Hello, 석준
석준: Busan is in full-frontal festive mood now. I’ve noticed some b-boys dancing on the street as I passed Seomyun.
Hyojung: Yes, Busan has officially entered its festive mood now. The B-boy performance you witnessed is possibly from the showcases for the Busan International Performing Arts Festival.
석준: Can you tell us more about the showcase?
Hyojung: It’s a part of featured events to highlight the performance arts community in Busan. BIPAF has scheduled various performances open to public including break-dancing teams, acoustic singer-songwriters, rock bands and parades. It’s an on-going event at outdoor stages or at subway stations until 10th of May.

석준: I was just curious. Are there any other international arts festivals other than BIPAF in Busan?
Hyojung: You would be surprised to find out  Busan’s got a lot to offer when it comes to festivals. For starters, we have Busan International Film Festival in September, International Dance Festival in June and music festival in February, International Rock Festival in August, and INternational Fireworks Festival in October. Not to mention Busan International Short Film Festival at the end of this month. Out of this list, you would think magic show is an anomaly but we have Busan International Magic Festival as well.
석준: That many? I’ve only heard of a couple of them.
Hyojung: I was surprised to find out about the number myself. It is true that festivals increase the demand for local tourism and successful festivals can help recreate the image of a place or contribute toward the exposure of a location trying to get on a the tourism map.
석준: Right. It’s instrumental.
Hyojung: Yes. You can say that regional festivals are also being used as an economic development tool since it affects cultural and social realm. It is instrumental in presenting local cultural traditions and customs to visitors, preserving and diffusing the heritage we have. In the end, it generates economic benefits, enhance local quality of life, and create community social solidarity.
석준: I see. Tell us about the itinerary for the BIPAF programs.
Hyojung: For this year, there are 19 dynamic works from 7 different countries coming together at this festival. Official opening ceremony was yesterday on May 1st  and the festival will go on until the May 10th  with its closing ceremony.

석준: Are there some programs or performances that audience can join?
Hyojung: Yes, of course, there are some joinable programs to bridge the gap between the audience and performance. Question and Answer Sessions offers an opportunity to general public to meet BIPAF performers. and we have 10 Minute Open Play which helps people realize their potentials by participating in an open play. It’s open for anyone who loves performing arts.
석준: So I can take part in a play if I want to?
Hyojung: Yes. That’s what 10 Mintue Open Play is all about. There’s also a workshop where international artists will conduct a lecture on varied topics regarding theater and performance. And we have a theater camp for youth.
석준: Where can one purchase the tickets?
Hyojung: You can easily go on to the website and purchase them.
석준: Do you have any particular work you wanted to watch for this year?
Hyojung: I actually already went to the opening ceremony yesterday to see the performance I wanted to see.
석준: Oh yeah? What was it?
Hyojung: It was a  L`homme de l`Atlantique which means The Atlantic Man in English.
석준: What is the story about?
Hyojung: You can say that this performance is entirely dedicated to legendary singer Frank Sinatra’s songs. It tells the story of love and life in an old Hollywood fashion with his music. Just like Mama Mia with ABBA’s songs or All Shook Up by Elvis Presley.
석준: It’s such a shame I missed the show! Frank Sinatra’s one of my favorites. Did you have any particular songs you liked?
Hyojung: Sure. All the songs in the play were so beautiful. Those are what you call ‘classic’. But since yesterday, I can’t get ‘Fly Me To The Moon’ out of my head. It keeps lingering in the back of my mind I kept humming it.
석준: Frank Sinatra will do that to you. Okay Why don’t we play that song for a change then?
Hyojung: Sure, that sounds like a good idea.
석준: Thank you for the information as usual, Hyojung. Enjoy your week with BIPAF.
Hyojung: Thank you, 석준.
석준: Our next song is FLY ME TO THE MOON by FRANK SINATRA.

10. Closing
Any theory of love must begin with a theory of man, of human existence.
While we find love, or rather, the equivalent of love, we, of all ages and cultures, are confronted with the solution of one and the same question: the question of how to overcome separateness, how to achieve union, how to transcend one’s own individual life.
The question is the same, for it springs from the same ground: the human situation, the conditions of human existence.
The answer always lies behind ‘love’. But love is complicated and its interpretations are varied.
Why don’t you try to find your definition of love by attending performance BIPAF?
Well, that is all for today.
What did you think of the show? What is your thought? Also, if you found our show useful and would like to re-listen, please go to www.befm.or.kr to download the clip or tell us what you think at #9050  or call us at 051 663 0061 0r 0062.

LTB is planned and produced by Byung-chul Lee of the Busan Ilbo.
Reported by Hyojung Choi.
Engineered by Ken Shin.
And hosted by me, Suk-jun Lim.
The last song for tonight is YOU’VE GOT THE LOVE by FLORENCE AND THE MACHINE.
